Luis\u00a0is Spanish, Anabella is Italian and their story\u00a0<\/span><\/span>was<\/span><\/span>\u00a0love at first sight!\u00a0<\/span><\/span>They met in Spain by pure coincidence and they are\u00a0<\/span><\/span>showing<\/span><\/span>\u00a0that if you want, you can! Today, 6 years later, they tell us their story!\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

How did you two\u00a0<\/span>meet<\/span>?\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n

Well, M\u00e1laga<\/span><\/span>\u00a0has many\u00a0<\/span><\/span>good things, especially the feria! Who would have\u00a0<\/span><\/span>believed<\/span><\/span>\u00a0that?<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>A<\/span><\/span>mong so many people… Fate put us in the same place that day for a reason! It was a\u00a0<\/span><\/span>coincidence;<\/span><\/span>\u00a0Anabella was only staying in\u00a0M\u00e1laga for a few days<\/span><\/span>. We met each other and two days later, she had to go back to Italy.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>For<\/span><\/span><\/strong>\u00a0those who don\u2019t believe in love at first sight, we can assure you that it exists!<\/strong> So, in August, we celebrate twice: the feria and our<\/span><\/span>\u00a0anniversary!\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

What is the best thing about being in an intercultural relationship? What is the most difficult?\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n

Getting to know another culture<\/strong>, another way of li<\/span><\/span>fe<\/span><\/span>, a gastronomy, customs, diverse people, amazing places in another country… But the best t<\/span><\/span>hing\u00a0<\/span><\/span>is\u00a0<\/span><\/span>to be able to share all of this with the perfect person. The most difficult was the distance<\/span><\/span>,<\/span><\/span>\u00a0since at the beginning we were separated\u00a0<\/span><\/span>for more than a year.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>I was in<\/span><\/span>\u00a0Spain, she\u00a0<\/span><\/span>was i<\/span><\/span>n Italy. But\u00a0<\/span><\/span>there is a bright side to<\/span><\/span>\u00a0this<\/span><\/span>:<\/span><\/span>\u00a0we travelled a lot!\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

S<\/span><\/span>o many! Believe it or not,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Italian and Spanish<\/span><\/span>\u00a0languages<\/span><\/span>, although\u00a0<\/span><\/span>quite<\/span><\/span>\u00a0similar, have a huge number of words that do not have the same meaning. Sometimes, we take advantage of this\u00a0<\/span><\/span>similarity<\/span><\/span>\u00a0between the two languages to make up words\u00a0<\/span><\/span>thinking<\/span><\/span>\u00a0that this is how we say it in the othe<\/span><\/span>r language<\/span><\/span>. H<\/span><\/span>owever, it<\/span><\/span>\u00a0is<\/span><\/span>\u00a0very often far from reality!\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Laughs are guaranteed<\/strong>, especially when you try to speak in front of your\u00a0<\/span><\/span>family-in-law!<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Which part of your partner\u2019s culture do you\u00a0<\/span>val<\/span>ue most?\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n

A lot of them! Italians, in general, are very welcoming and make you feel at home. They are helpful, proud of their country, of their history, of their art and above all, of their spectacular cuisine. Who does not like pizza\u00a0<\/span>or<\/span>\u00a0pasta?<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

If you want, you can! More than f<\/span><\/span>our years ago, on New Year\u2019s Eve, we met at a gas station where everyone was filling up and we\u00a0<\/span><\/span>had an argument.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0A few days later, we met there again by c<\/span><\/span>hance\u00a0<\/span><\/span>(because we were living in the same neighbourhood), he apologized and invited me to have a coffee\u00a0<\/span><\/span>that<\/span><\/span>\u00a0we ended\u00a0<\/span><\/span>up drinking at this very gas station. That\u2019s how it all started!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

What is the best thing about being in an intercultural relationship? What is the most difficult?<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n

We have always believed that diversity enriches!<\/strong> We have never stopped being curious to\u00a0<\/span><\/span>know more about<\/span><\/span>\u00a0each other\u2019s customs and traditions. The most difficult thing is that, although I\u2019ve been living in Spain for 21 years, I always feel nostalgic when I think about my family, especially wh<\/span><\/span>en they\u2019re going through difficult times and I can\u2019t be with them. My partner really tries to make things easier for me!\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Not from my side because I have spent half of my life here. However, he has a lot of anecdotes about our trips in M<\/span><\/span>orocco<\/span><\/span>, especially at the customs and in the restaurants!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

To show<\/span><\/span>\u00a0empathy<\/strong>,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>to\u00a0<\/span><\/span>put yourself in the other person\u2019s shoes to understand their anxieties and\u00a0<\/span><\/span>reasons<\/span><\/span>\u00a0in each situation. Don’t forget to be patient, it is necessary to get used to\u00a0<\/span><\/span>each other\u2019s\u00a0<\/span><\/span>way of being since in our case, we have different religions and customs.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Brenda is Argentin<\/span><\/span>i<\/span><\/span>an and our colleague David is Spanish. If we asked David which is the craziest thing he has ever done for love, Brenda would surely come to his mind! Today, after 15 years together, we are<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>sure that taking the risk was worth it!<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

How did you two\u00a0<\/span><\/span>meet<\/span><\/span>?<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n

Back in 2004, we were co-workers although we had never spoken. One day we all went for a drink at a nearby bar. After talking for a while, she told us that she was thinking of going back to her country, Argentina. At that moment, I had a strange feeling, like emptiness, and I\u00a0<\/strong>went for\u00a0it<\/strong>: “If you’re going back to Argentina, I’m going with you”. And this is what happened!<\/p>\n

We came back to Spain a\u00a0month later, we\u00a0moved in\u00a0together, and\u00a0we are still together!<\/p>\n

What is the best thing about being in an intercultural relationship? What is the most difficult?<\/span><\/span><\/h4>\n

The best thing has been to get to know a new culture, places and especially, new people. Travelling to Argentina every few years and enjoying its landscapes and the love of the people is fantastic!<\/p>\n

Regarding the most complicated thing, I would say not being able to be with your loved ones in difficult moments and feeling that your partner is sad about it.<\/p>\n

What about the language, the culture, do you have any anecdotes?<\/span><\/span><\/h4>\n

Language has never been a problem, except for the differences we have when naming some objects, but little by little you get used to speaking in an Argentinian-Spanish mixture that we find very nice. Sometimes, because of the speed of speech in Andalusia, it’s a bit hard to make yourself understood, but with time we have improved the communication between us!<\/p>\n

Which part of your partner\u2019s culture do you value most?<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n

The<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>passion<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>for<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>life<\/span><\/span>\u00a0in\u00a0<\/span><\/span>every<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>situation<\/span><\/span>, new\u00a0<\/span><\/span>projects<\/span><\/span>, etc. I\u00a0<\/span><\/span>think<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>this<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>is<\/span><\/span>\u00a0a\u00a0<\/span><\/span>very<\/span><\/span>\u00a0positive cultural\u00a0<\/span><\/span>aspect<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>of<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>the<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Argentinian\u00a0<\/span><\/span>people<\/span><\/span>!<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
